At the end of September Candace & I set out to do the trifecta. We visited Pocosin Lakes, Mattamuskeet and Alligator River National Wildlife Refuges. We saw lots of wildlife throughout the day but my favorite were the Great Egrets. As we were driving through the final stop of the day, Alligator River, we came across a very large gathering of egrets feeding. Around twenty or so were feeding on small bait fish, crappie and catfish that were in the canals. The egrets basically eating at a buffet, picking one fish right after another. I photographed them flying in, catching fish and then flying off. I had a blast! Great egrets are so beautiful and are quickly becoming one of my favorite subjects! I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and good new year! Next Blog post will be remembering my favorite 16 of 2016.
