Over the past few weeks I've been watching and photographing a red-shouldered hawk's nest. I discovered it in Kinston, NC. This is the first nest I've been able to photograph easily from the ground.
The male does the hunting, he spends most of the day hunting small birds, snakes & squirrels. As seen above, he leaves the nest in search of food.
This bottom image was taken yesterday. Spring is officially here and trees have most of their leaves now. I watched them for about an hour and the male would bring back a meal and I could see her feeding her new hatchlings!. So hopefully in the coming weeks I will be able to see how many she has. Check back for hopefully another update on this pair of hawks.
